How are diamonds formed?
When carbon undergoes extreme pressure and heat, for an extended period of time, the carbon crystallizes into diamonds.
Without the extreme pressure, carbon deposits may not amount to much of anything.
I once heard a story by a man named David Bednar. He spoke of his friend who had bought a new truck. He was excited to test out its power. He drove the truck up into the mountains to collect wood. There was snow all over the ground. He found himself stuck in the depths of it. He tried to get the truck out, but the more and more he tried, the deeper his tires sank into the snow.
With nothing else to do, he got out of the truck and began to work. He spent the day cutting wood. With his truck bed filled, he decided it was time to head home.
Getting back in the truck, he wasn’t sure if he would be able to move. To his surprise, the truck inched forward. The added weight from the wood in the truck gave enough pressure for the tires to grip the ground. He was able to free himself, and head home.
Pressure can be uncomfortable, and we may not always seek it out in our life. But if we have enough of the right kind of pressure in our lives, even at work, it can help us to perform on a higher level than we may have otherwise performed. It can force us to learn new skills, develop valuable relationships, or take opportunities that we would have otherwise foregone.
I spent 4 years of my life putting off learning SQL. My boss challenged me to finally take action. I learned it in 2 weeks. The right kind of pressure can transform us.
The next time you are under pressure at work, take a moment to recognize the development that is taking place within yourself as a professional.

🎯 Target Forcing ‘Return to Office’ On Its Customers?
First hundreds of employers forced thousands of employees to give up their autonomy and return to work in office. Now Target is putting restrictions on self-checkouts across the country. Shoppers with more than 10 items will be forced to use a traditional check out line. Beware: You may have to actually talk to strangers again while in public. What next will become of the autonomous and isolated lifestyle that we have grown to love? The nationwide directive went live on March 17 (Source).
🥜 Things Get ‘Nuts’ at Trader Joes
Specific lots of “50% Less Sodium Roasted & Salted Whole Cashews” are being recalled by Trader Joe’s due to concerns of Salmonella. The suspected product was sold at stores in Alaska, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, and Washington. Consumers who suspect they are in possession of a tainted bag of nuts should properly dispose of them, and seek reimbursement (Source).
🏀 Let the Madness begin!
If work slows down this week, it is because ‘The Big Dance’ has started! With 68 men’s teams and 68 women’s teams kicking off the first week of their respective tournaments, there will be a lot of basketball to watch. According to Fox Sports, UConn has the best odds of winning the men’s tournament this year, while South Carolina has the best odds of winning the women’s tournament. But I wouldn’t count out Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeye’s from giving the Gamecocks a run for their money. Speaking of money, if you’re lucky, you just might win your company’s March Madness tournament prize pot. Make sure you feel out your tournament brackets before tip off (Thursday for men, Friday for women). ESPN and CBSSports are two common places to fill out a bracket online (Source 1, Source 2).
